Trieste, City Hall’s Salotto Azzurro – Today the veil was unveiled on an event that promises to make October 15 an unforgettable day for the city: the 1st International Road Race Running Match u.23 10k. This race marks an approaching step toward the 2024 European Championships in Rome and raises Trieste’s international profile in the world of athletics.
A Global Stage
The competition will feature under-23 athletes from France, Greece, Israel, Norway, Switzerland and, of course, Italy. This event, included in the prestigious World Athletics calendar, is made possible through collaboration with the Italian Athletics Federation (Fidal).
The Heartbeat of the City
The race will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, followed closely by the 7th Joma Castles Run, another athletic event that enchants the city every year. This event is the brainchild of Sports Councillor Giorgio Rossi and former athlete Michele Gamba, organized by ASD Promorun in collaboration with local entities.

Get ready for an adventure that will take you from Miramare Castle to San Giusto Castle, crossing the heart of the city in a competition that promises spectacle, adrenaline and high sportsmanship.

Roberto Dipiazza , Mayor of Trieste, commented, “This event elevates the name of our city and I thank ASD Promorun for their commitment and cooperation. October 15 will be a historic day for Trieste.”

Fabio Scoccimarro , FVG Regional Councillor for Environmental Defense, Energy and Sustainable Development, stressed the importance of the event: “Here international and popular athletics come together. Among other things, the route is a journey through the history of Trieste, from the modern Miramare Castle to the older San Giusto Castle.”
Pierpaolo Roberti , FVG regional councillor for local autonomy, civil service, security and immigration, confirmed, “The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region is fully involved. Trieste will be at the center of a series of events in the coming period, combining sports and culture.”
Stefano Mei , president of the Italian Athletics Federation, said, “Italian athletics is in an extraordinary phase of transformation and growth. We are thrilled to bring an event of this caliber to Trieste, a city I am very fond of.”
Creating Excellence, Thanking Allies
Michele Gamba , former blue medalist and creator of the event, expressed his gratitude: “A big and strong thank you to all the institutions and sponsors. To have so many nations at the start is extraordinary; we represent today an excellence for Trieste and for the sport.”
Silvia Gianardi , President of Promorun Asd, commented, “We are proud of the event and of the membership of nations that have weight in athletics. In addition, a portion of the registrations will be donated to the Burlo Garofolo Hospital’s Resusci Junior project.”
Francesco Panetta , world 3000 steeplechase champion, added, “Being a testimonial for this event is an honor for me. I thank you for the invitation and I am happy to support sports in this city.”
Details about the Race and the Route
The Race – In addition to Italy, five other foreign federations have already confirmed their participation. Registration and memberships will be open until October 5. The opening ceremony will take place on Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m., with the presentation of the national teams.
The Route – Athletes will enjoy the architectural and scenic beauty of Trieste, starting from Miramare Castle and ending at San Giusto Castle. The route will enhance the cultural richness of the city, culminating in a challenging final kilometer, known as “The Wall,” at the Austrian fortress.
